‘Russian Community Crime Prevention Project’, is an intervention project in Melbourne targeting Australian-Russian families.
It is funded by the National Community Crime Prevention Program, an Australian Government Initiative. The Project began its activity in May 2007.
Russian Community Crime Prevention Project is aimed at:
- Prevention of crime and anti-social behaviour
- Improvement of community safety and security
- Reduction of fear of crime.
The Project target groups include Russian-speaking seniors, those who suffer from domestic violence (mainly women and their children), youth, unemployed and newly-arrived migrants.
The Project activities involve:
- Education Campaign on community Safety and Crime Prevention (via mass media and community groups),
- Running of self-support groups for interested community members
- Provision of individual outreach services, offering support, information and referral to victims of domestic violence.
- Provision of targeted information and work with at risk individuals and families to reduce risk of involvement in criminal activity.
