Battalion. First. Women’s. Eternal
“BATTALION” is based on the true story of the 1st Russian Women’s Battalion. Maria Bochkareva was a Russian peasant who, after three years of serving in the army, attained the rank of non-commissioned officer in 1917. She petitioned the government to allow her to establish a battalion of female soldiers – the first in the history of human civilization. Instead of the conventional focus on male bravery, the movie tells of the hope that the Women’s Battalion would revitalize the fatigued & demoralised male soldiers, shaming them into resuming combat duties. Controversial? – watch it and decide for yourself…
