Organised by early Russian migrants, Holy Protection Cathedral is an long-standing community organisation. Its members span several generations; migrants themselves, their children and grandchildren. It is based around the parish life of the cathedral, but encompasses much more. This includes a school, children’s groups, a choir, a youth group, a sisterhood and seniors groups. All of these come together on a weekly basis.
Each year the cathedral community comes together to celebrate events of religious and cultural significance. This includes but is not limited to Easter and Christmas, lectures, concerts, luncheons and dinners: all to support the community’s heritage and to showcase its best qualities to the multicultural community in Melbourne more broadly.
