Istoki is a community school based in Oakleigh. It performs an important function for children of Russian migrants, educating in art, literature, music and much more. Classes are designed for preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years and are based on gaming and ethno-musical techniques of Zheleznov, Smirnova, Karimov and others. Children get acquainted with various materials: plasticine, paper, and natural materials.
Children create their first crafts, figures and applications, draw. The classes develop motor skills, attention, accuracy, creativity and imagination in the child. Classes and drawing lessons are held for children from 6 years of age. At the lessons the children get acquainted with the history, traditions and techniques of world painting and icon painting. The children’s theater studio carries out work on the production of plays, which have been traditionally conducted by the parish forces for several years.
