For more than 10 years, during Maslenitsa, an ancient Orthodox Christian holiday celebrated in the last week before the Orthodox Lent, RERC traditionally host a Russian festival in Melbourne, gathering up to 40 thousand guests interested in the beauty and wealth of Russian culture.
The festival was already celebrated at Federation Square in the city, Fitzroy the historical district, the Botanical Garden. Originally conceived as Slavic Pancake Festival, since 2018 this bright and positive celebration has become a one-of-a-kind celebration of Russian culture that is world-renowned.
In 2020, Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition building turned into a traditional Russian village for a day to host the tenth, anniversary festival and to show the rich and diverse traditions of the country arousing interest in Russian culture from representatives of different nationalities. This incorporates many aspects of Russian culture, the highlights of which include the following:
Melbourne Russian Festival is unique. Such an event is unique and it isn’t hosted anywhere else in the world. It is an achievement of the Russian community of Melbourne, whose representatives were able to organize the largest exhibition of Russian culture outside their original homeland. Each festival brings together new guests who come from other states and countries.
